Sweden is keeping its position among the world’s most innovative nations

The index is based on 79 various indicators which measure the nations innovative capacity.

As a whole, the group of top 25 performers – all high income economies – remains largely unchanged from past editions, illustrating that it is hard for the others to challenge the leaders’ performance.

Even when it comes to innovational quality, measured according to the results of the University, the reach of scientific articles together with international patent applications we find the bigger nations and economies at the front line.

The United States and The United Kingdom are dominating, mostly due to their world class universities. They are closely followed by Japan, Germany and Switzerland. Three nations that keep on improving their innovational quality are China, Brazil and India, with China as the nation developing the quickest.

This was the 8th edition of the Global Innovation Index which WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) is co-published by Cornell University and INSEAD.
