At the beginning of 2023 at the latest, the Unified Patent Court within the EU is expected to be effective. It will be possible to obtain patent protection with effect in several EU countries at the same time – a Unitary Patent.

If you already have European patents, you need to decide in advance if you want the existing patents to be excluded from the jurisdiction of the Unified Patent Court, and if so you need to opt out.
