Finland has joined the Unified Patent Court
Finland has now fully ratified the ‘Agreement on a Unified Patent Court’ by depositing its instrument of ratification. By ratifying the agreement it will be possible for an applicant to get protection through a unitary patent in Finland together with all the other countries that have ratified the unitary patent.
The Unified Patent Court will have jurisdiction to decide over both unitary patents but also the ‘normal’ European patents that have been validated for Finland (unless this is opted-out).
The Unified Patent Court will enter into force after being ratified by at least 13 Member States. So far it has been ratified by 9 Member States (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Sweden and Finland).
Thus we are only 4 more signatures (including UK and Germany) from the start of the Unified Patent Court.
