Madrid Protocol – International Registrations
The national offices have up to 18 months to examine the application on a national level. The international registration is dependent on the basic application/registration for five years counting from the registration date. If the basic registration for some reason becomes invalid (for example by non‐renewal), also the international registration is declared invalid. However, the international registration can be converted into national applications in the designated countries.
Use, marking etc.
The national provisions for each designated country are applicable. The registration is, however, not valid in the designated countries until the Patent Office in each country has accepted the registration. We will keep you informed about the development.
Territorial extension
The registration can at any time be extended to other countries which are members of the Protocol. A list of the present member countries can be found by clicking here.
