Community Design celebrates tenth anniversary
The European trademark authority (OHIM) is set to pass a key milestone in 2013 with the tenth anniversary of the first Registered Community Design (RCD) which was effected on 1 April 2003. Since then, OHIM has registered more than 690,000 RCDs.
RCD has a number of benefits for anyone looking to apply for design protection in Europe. The design automatically gains protection throughout the EU, while the application procedure is simplified thanks to the fact that applicants only have to communicate with a single administrative entity. It is also cheaper than having to apply for protection from each individual country.
