Joanna Applequist
Joanna Applequist is a Partner and a European Patent Attorney. She has been working in the life sciences and chemistry industries since 2011. She specializes in the fields of cell- and molecular biology, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
Joanna works in close collaboration with clients and inventors. Her main focus areas are biological and small molecule pharmaceuticals and formulation thereof, protein engineering, antibodies, immunology, vaccine development, cell and gene therapy (ATMPs) as well as stem cells and neurobiology.

Joanna works with drafting and prosecuting patent applications, patentability evaluations, IP strategies, Freedom to Operate (FTO) analyses, IP Due Diligence, and Third Party Observations and Oppositions. In addition, Joanna has experience in handling SPC applications.
She has an M.Sc. in Engineering Biology and received her Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from the Karolinska Institute. Joanna has a particularly deep understanding of developmental biology and neurobiology, including stem cells and cell differentiation from her time as an academic researcher.
Joanna is also an experienced lecturer and provides expert patent analysis and commentary to leading industry publications on topics such as Crispr-Cas9 technology, patenting of ATMPs and Due Diligence analysis. Joanna is also a board member of AIPPI Sweden.
